Teacher-Centred Instruction

CAPIT differs from all digital programs by keeping teachers front and center, supporting their crucial role as facilitators of student learning. The CAPIT platform leverages technology to enhance instruction but is a tool for teachers, not a replacement of teachers—teachers remain at the heart of the learning process because human interaction and guidance are indispensable to effective education.

Each lesson begins with teacher-led instruction in a 10-to-15-minute whole-group or small-group session; then, students progress individually through the phonics curriculum. If a student makes three errors in a row while working on the platform, our system alerts the teacher to step in, diagnose the problem, and provide support.

The Teacher Experience

GROUP LESSON  •  10-15 Minutes Daily

Research informs us that students learn to read best when receiving daily explicit and systematic phonics instruction from their teachers. CAPIT teachers conduct daily lessons lasting about 10-15 minutes with the entire class or small groups .

The Student Experience

INDIVIDUAL STUDENT PRACTICE  •  10-30 Minutes Daily

Students progress at their own pace in independant skill practice as teachers monitor, offer support and encouragement, and challenge students with pointed questions.

Ease of Implementation

The CAPIT Reading Curriculum is easy to implement, ensuring that teachers regularly use it. We accomplish this by providing teachers with:

  1. Detailed Lesson Guides containing comprehensive lesson plans, creative and collaborative practices, and lesson scripts that help teachers teach phonics clearly and explicitly.

  2. A dedicated digital Teacher Profile that guides teachers through the teaching of each foundational skill. CAPIT eliminates the need for educators to navigate bulky teacher guides or spend hours preparing lessons. Our intuitive digital platform simplifies the teaching and delivery of explicit and systematic instruction, ensuring all experienced and new teachers can deliver impactful phonics lessons on day one.

  3. Comprehensive Professional Learning in the Science of Reading.

  4. A Support Team of literacy experts that offer ongoing coaching.

  5. A CAPIT Teaching Channel where teachers can observe an expert CAPIT teacher teaching CAPIT lessons.

Individualized and Differentiated

We use technology to address the needs of every students.

Some students learn quickly, while others require more time and assistance. The CAPIT Reading Curriculum enables students to progress at a rate that is right for them, offering students immediate feedback and signaling to teachers when students require additional assistance.

Embedded Assessments

We use technology to assess students as they learn.

The CAPIT Reading curriculum is competency-based, advancing learners in phonics as they demonstrate mastery and automaticity of all previously learned foundational reading skills.

From the beginning of the learning journey, students complete embedded assessments to demonstrate mastery of newly acquired skills.

Real Time Actionable Data

CAPIT Reading uses technology to provide actionable student data in all literacy sub-skills. Schools and districts gain real-time insights into teachers' instruction, lesson frequency, and student progress.

Rich data enables educators to promptly identify and address learning gaps rather than relying on mid-year assessment data. Consequently, CAPIT helps educators identify struggling students early to ensure more students attain grade-level reading proficiency in Tier 1.

Phonemic Awareness Solution

CAPIT Reading delivers a comprehensive Science of Reading Based Phonemic Awareness Curriculum.

Phonemic awareness is the ability to hear, blend, and segment the phonemes (sounds) that make up the words in a spoken language.

The Science of Reading informs us that the most important phonemic awareness skills are blending (when we read new words) and segmenting (when we spell).

With CAPIT, students hone their phonemic awareness skills daily—as early as PK.

Instruction that taught phoneme manipulation with letters helped normally developing readers and at-risk readers acquire PA better than PA instruction without letters.

Spelling

Spelling Test is the most common activity students experience on CAPIT. Spelling instruction begins in KG and, for some students, as early as preschool. Students spell ten words in each Spelling Test and complete hundreds of spelling tests every year—beginning in KG.

Spelling Tests accomplish two goals:

  1. They assess students to ensure they understand all the previously learned Reading Skills.

  2. They help the students automate their decoding (reading) and encoding (spelling) skills.

ERROR AND FEEDBACK

When a student makes an error, CAPIT indicates to the student which letters the student got wrong. This immediate feedback is crucial for learning and is made possible by our digital learning platform.

Handwriting

CAPIT is also a comprehensive Handwriting Curriculum.

The research informs us that students learn letters and sounds faster when they learn to write the letters, and teachers incorporate writing exercises into the phonics lesson.

Our unique Tactile Visual Mnemonics and patented methodology teach students to write letters through visualization instead of memorizing random phrases to inform each stroke. We call it: Handwriting Without Words because visualization is all a student needs to remember the direction and number of strokes.

We provide teachers with free downloadable handwriting sheets so students can practice putting pencil to paper.

Library of Digital Books

Our Code-Appropriate Books are 100% Decodable!

Decodable books enable students to practice developing phonics skills and enjoy doing so. It just makes good sense!

With CAPIT Reading, students earn books as they progress through the program. Students enjoy our books (they are cute and funny), and we are confident they can read them because we make students spell the words in the books before they unlock them.

Our books are 100% decodable and contain NO sight words. With CAPIT, students don’t memorize high-frequency words. We show them how to decode them.

Keyboarding

We introduce the keyboard as soon as students begin blending letters to create words, as early as kindergarten.

We do not provide students with a populated keyboard. Instead, we introduce letters one at a time, so students build their keyboards as they learn to read.
